Camp Controversies & Crisis Challenge
Camp Controversies & Crisis Challenge
This resource is designed to be a training resource for camp leaders to determine the best ways to handle some of the possible complex situations that might arise at their camps.
By putting themselves in the role of the leadership team at the fictional camp in the case, camp leaders can test their own skills at handling the various stakeholders and risks that arise when dealing with a camp controversy or crisis.
You can read this guide and think about your own decisions in such scenarios as an independent thought exercise; you can join with others on your leadership team to discuss the presented cases; you can facilitate a live-action simulation of the given cases as part of a camp staff or leadership team training (hint: a full example of how to do this is included with the last case in this resource, the Camp Kiko Crisis Challenge).
Practicing handling complicated, delicate, and human-centered issues will make you a better camp leader, will help your team understand broad impact when making decisions, and will prepare you for when you encounter a crisis of your own.
